How to read this guide

Room adjacency and Generator coverage are different checks. This PoE2 Golem Smithy chain guide follows the upgrade and power checks in the Temple Planner, then compares them with linked room references. It describes a planning model, not a promise that every patch uses identical wording.

The PoE2 Golem Smithy chain in one minute

The short version: use adjacent Generators to advance Golem Works, treat Smithy as its own support check, and start either Barracks outcome from Garrison. The rooms share parts of a Temple layout, but the Barracks choice is not the next tier of the Golem Works or Smithy chain.

Room or branch What to check Common mistake
Golem Works Adjacent Generator count and Generator coverage for its tier Counting a nearby Generator that is not an eligible adjacent room
Smithy The eligible adjacent support slots plus the tier-specific power check Assuming one T2 condition automatically satisfies T3
Legion Barracks Choose the Legion conversion from Garrison Treating it as an upgrade after Smithy
Transcendent Barracks Choose the separate Transcendent conversion and check its Generator support Assuming it is the same outcome as Legion Barracks

Golem Works: adjacency and coverage are separate

A useful PoE2 golem smithy chain starts by separating two ideas that are easy to blend together. Adjacency means a qualifying room occupies a directly neighboring cell. Generator coverage means a Generator can power the room through the connected route represented by the planner. A Generator can be in range without sitting next to Golem Works, and a room can touch Golem Works without being powered. Check both the room's tier rule and its power indicator instead of judging by the grid picture alone.

In the site planner, Golem Works reaches Tier 2 with one adjacent Generator and Tier 3 with two. Its separate coverage check likewise requires one powering Generator for Tier 2 and two for Tier 3. For the PoE2 Golem Smithy chain, reserve those neighboring cells and trace a connected route that keeps the Generators in range. A nearby but disconnected Generator cannot satisfy a power check.

A route can be connected without every support room being directly adjacent. Use the in-game room panel to confirm each requirement.

Remember the room's effect list

The planner describes Golem Works as scaling effects from Generators, Synthflesh Labs, Flesh Surgeons, Transcendent Barracks, and Alchemy Labs. It does not list Smithy or Legion Barracks in that effect group. A room's upgrade dependency and the rooms it improves are separate facts.

Smithy upgrades: verify the tier-specific combination

Smithy is the planner's chest-rarity room. Its upgrade path can use Golem Works or Generator support, but the checks become stricter by tier. The planner lists one qualifying adjacent support for Tier 2 and two for Tier 3. Its separate power check allows adjacent Golem Works or Generator coverage at Tier 2; Tier 3 requires both adjacent Golem Works and Generator coverage. That is why the PoE2 Golem Smithy chain must be checked one tier at a time.

A Smithy touching Golem Works may satisfy an adjacency check without proving that a Generator reaches it. A powered Smithy may still lack the required neighboring support slots. Record the direct neighbors, qualifying count, power source, and target tier as separate checks.

Do not overread the grid

The table summarizes this site's planner rules. If the live game panel shows different wording after a patch, trust the current in-game requirement and update the plan before spending a room choice.

Legion Barracks and Transcendent Barracks are separate branches

Barracks planning begins with Garrison, not with Golem Works or Smithy. The PoE2 Golem Smithy chain does not turn into a Barracks upgrade: the room data models Legion Barracks and Transcendent Barracks as two separate Garrison outcomes. Choose the branch you want; do not route through one result expecting it to become the other.

The branches also have different synergies. The planner lists Transcendent Barracks in Golem Works' effect group and calls out Generator support for that branch. Legion Barracks appears in the Spymaster effect list. These links do not merge the conversions: track the Garrison choice, Barracks variant, and effect-scaling room separately.

Legion Barracks is one Garrison outcome; Transcendent Barracks is a separate branch.
  • Decide whether the Legion or Transcendent result fits your route before placing the support rooms.
  • For a Transcendent route, check the Generator requirement shown by the current room panel.
  • Treat Golem Works scaling, Spymaster scaling, and room conversion as three different questions.
  • If your purpose is only to upgrade Smithy, do not add a Barracks detour unless it serves another Temple goal.

Three planning examples that keep the routes distinct

Use these PoE2 Golem Smithy chain patterns as route examples, not guaranteed offers. Test your entrance, blocked cells, and current choices in the planner.

Choose the smallest route that serves the goal
Goal Plan first What to verify
Upgrade Golem Works Reserve its direct neighboring cells for Generators, then extend the connected power route One adjacent and powering Generator for Tier 2; two for Tier 3
Upgrade Smithy Place Smithy beside an eligible support and keep a Generator route available At Tier 3, check both adjacent Golem Works and Generator coverage
Build a Barracks variant Follow the chosen Garrison conversion Confirm Legion versus Transcendent before investing in the separate branch

For Golem Works Tier 3, reserve two Generator neighbors even if you place only one at first. For Smithy, decide whether Tier 3 is worth reserving its stricter support. For Barracks, start at Garrison and choose the intended variant.

Place the most constrained room near the entrance, reserve its support cells, and fit optional rooms around it. If a branch blocks the main reward route, compare the cost before committing.

Troubleshoot a blocked Golem Works or Smithy upgrade

If the PoE2 Golem Smithy chain does not advance, inspect one requirement at a time. Start with the target tier. Count directly adjacent eligible rooms, then check whether a Generator powers the target along the connected path. Confirm the expected room variant and that no route change disconnected its support.

  1. Read the target room's current tier requirement.
  2. Count only direct neighbors when the rule says adjacent.
  3. Confirm Generator coverage through the connected route.
  4. For Smithy Tier 3, test Golem Works adjacency and power separately.
  5. For Golem Works Tier 3, verify two qualifying Generators and recheck the live panel.

If the tier marker disagrees, save the layout and test one missing condition at a time. Record the room, tier, and neighbors if the planner conflicts with the live panel.

A repeatable sequence for room-chain planning

Plan the PoE2 Golem Smithy chain backward: choose the room that must reach its target tier, then mark its direct-neighbor and power requirements. This reveals scarce cells before you place flexible rooms.

  1. Choose one priority: Golem Works Tier 3, Smithy Tier 3, or a specific Garrison conversion.
  2. Mark the target room and its required adjacent support cells.
  3. Draw a connected route from the entrance and place Generator coverage along that route.
  4. Add the next most valuable reward room without consuming a required neighbor.
  5. Check the live room panel, record the tier requirement, and save a fallback plan if a choice is uncertain.

If an offer changes, protect the goal and minimum legal route, then rebuild optional branches. The game remains the authority for the active Temple.

What this guide can and cannot confirm

The PoE2 Golem Smithy chain here explains the planner's checks; it does not promise a room offer or reward. Verify patch-sensitive requirements in the live panel.

If a patch changes a conversion, adjacency, or Generator behavior, follow the game and review any planner mismatch.

Frequently asked questions

For its tier upgrades in this site's planner, Golem Works uses adjacent Generators: one for Tier 2 and two for Tier 3. The planner also checks Generator coverage. Read the live room panel before committing because game requirements can change.

The planner models a Tier 2 path that can use adjacent Golem Works or Generator power. Tier 3 is stricter: it checks adjacent Golem Works together with Generator coverage and the qualifying adjacent support count.

No. They are separate Garrison conversion branches. Choose the intended variant at Garrison; do not treat one Barracks outcome as a later tier of the other.

Test the target tier, direct neighbors, and Generator coverage separately. The planner's Golem Works effect list does not include Smithy, so keep upgrade dependencies and effect scaling distinct.
